At a glance:
The AQ-LITH EnergyBox is a high-quality LiFePO4 battery manufactured by the Belgian company Battery Supplies. A home battery offers many benefits regardless of whether or not the home has a photovoltaic installation. It can both save money and provide reliable backup power during power outages.

Modern technology:
Thanks to the high energy density of the LiFePO4 battery chemistry, the battery is lightweight and compact for its capacity. The device operates autonomously once installed and can be monitored remotely via a handy app.

Great for homes with a photovoltaic installation:
The peak power production of a photovoltaic system coincides with the times during which a typical household consumes the least power. When added to a PV system, the EnergyBox works as an energy storage for the excess/unused electricity generated during the day. This stored power can then be used during the evening or periods of diminished solar power generation, making the home partially or potentially entirely energy-independent.

For homes without a photovoltaic installation:
For homes without solar panels, the EnergyBox can act as a UPS in cases where frequent blackouts occur, providing power until the regular electrical supply returns. This can be especially helpful as every household has appliances that have to operate continuously, such as fridges and freezers.

Additional savings:
EnergyBox can also save money by smoothing out momentary spikes in consumption that might be penalised by the grid provider. Depending on the variability of prices during the day, it can also charge when electricity is cheaper and discharge during the hours when it is more expensive.

What is the optimal battery capacity?:
The choice of battery capacity should be determined by the so-called “base load” of the home/business. Base load is the combined power consumption of all appliances that must operate without interruption, such as fridges, security systems, HVAC etc.
For larger homes/businesses with a higher base load, the AQ-LITH EnergyRack would be a better option because of its larger capacity and modular design.


Construction:
The battery has a sturdy two-tone metal enclosure that protects the battery cells from damage. The LEDs located on the front panel indicate all of the basic information about the status of the battery. The ON/OFF switch and RJ45 connectors are well-protected behind metal access panels with rubber gaskets and latch mechanisms. The access panel for RJ45 connectors features a rubber grommet for cable pass-through. 

Installation:
The unit is designed for wall mounting and comes with the necessary mounting bracket and mounting hardware. Typically home batteries are installed in garages, basements or service rooms. The compact size of the battery means it can be installed in most homes without taking up too much valuable space and remaining as unobtrusive as possible. 
 
Part of a larger system:
Home batteries are one component of a larger electrical supply system. The battery itself outputs DC that cannot be used directly by home appliances designed for AC power. The battery requires a hybrid inverter such as the Victron MultiPlus-II, and for photovoltaic installations an MPPT charge controller such as the Victron Smart Solar MPPT.  Communication between the battery and controller is done via a CAN bus protocol. The system is configured during the installation process, after which it will operate maintenance-free.

Please note that the battery requires several charge/discharge cycles before it reaches its design capacity.
