Overview:
Robust centrifugal inline duct fan for use with standard round or Spiro ducts. The fan features a backwards curved impeller for improved efficiency. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations, in supply or extract ventilation systems. The fan can work in both horizontal and vertical duct runs. Reliable operation and long service life of at least 40 000 hours. The single-phase motor is equipped with ball bearings and has an IP 44 protection rating. The electric motor also features an external rotor and overheating protection. The fan supports smooth or step speed control with a thyristor or an autotransformer-based speed controller. More than one fan can be connected to the same speed controller, provided that the total load does not exceed the design specifications of the controller. 
 
Application:
Modern HVAC systems use many different fan designs that each have their advantages and disadvantages, making them best suited for a specific purpose. As their name suggests inline fans are mounted in line with the ductwork, instead of at the beginning or end of a ventilation run. This makes them suited for applications where the fan cannot be visible, or a more powerful fan is required. Inline centrifugal fans are very efficient at moving large volumes of air at low to moderate pressures. Though they are not as quiet as axial fans or mixed flow fans, this is typically not an issue as they are mounted remotely. Centrifugal inline duct fans are great at expelling heat and humidity from greenhouses and grow tents, and they can also be found in server rooms and data centres. That is not to say they are not suitable for smaller HVAC systems and home use. They are often used in kitchen range hoods and they are perfect for wet spaces such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens. 
Inline centrifugal fans can be found in supply and exhaust systems for continuous whole-house ventilation and ventilation systems for radon mitigation.
 
Construction and installation:
The fan features a polymer-coated steel casing with male-male spigots on either end. The fan comes bundled with mounting brackets. Power is connected via standard screw terminals. A straight section of ventilation duct with a length of at least 1 m should be provided on the intake side of the fan, and at least 3 times the duct diameter on the exhaust side. When installed in a vertical orientation a hood should be placed above the fan.
The wire powering the fan should have a cross-section of at least 0,75 mm2. A circuit breaker must be used with every fan. The fuse rating should be 1 A for most fans, 2 A for VKM355Q and 3,15 A for VKM400 and VKM450.
Note that as this device creates vibrations during operation, it is important to periodically inspect the fan mounts, to make sure the device is still securely mounted. The impeller blades will require periodic cleaning and should be cleaned twice a year.
