Victron Cerbo GX communication centre for photovoltaic systems

No rating yet

Product description

The Victron Cerbo GX is a communication centre designed to monitor, control and configure a photovoltaic system locally or remotely. The device supports multiple communication protocols, including BMS-Can, Victron VE.Can, VE.Bus and VE.Direct. It works as a hub that connects all other components. It can be accessed via the Victron Remote Management (VRM) portal, or directly using the optional GX Touch screen, a Multi-Functional Display (MFD), or the VictronConnect app via Bluetooth.

Additional specifications and description

At a glance
The Victron Cerbo GX enables simple and reliable monitoring and control of your photovoltaic installation. The device works alongside other Victron products, such as the MultiPlus-II and SmartSolar MPPT RS, and functions as a communication hub/control centre. The product is also compatible with third-party devices and features a vast array of inputs and outputs.

Who is the Cerbo GX for?
The communication centre is suitable for off-grid and grid-connected photovoltaic/alternative energy systems. The Cerbo GX is ideal for traditional home/business photovoltaic installations, but it can add even more value when used in portable applications such as recreational vehicles or marine craft.

What can it do?
The Cerbo GX enables monitoring of various metrics such as the battery state of charge, power consumption, power generated from solar panels, and more. It combines everything in one place in an easy and intuitive way.

Local and remote monitoring and control
Control and configuration of the Cerbo GX can be done remotely over the internet using the Remote Console; the same functionality is available on the local network (LAN) or using the WiFi Access Point of the Cerbo GX.

More than just solar
In addition to solar controllers and inverters, the device can receive data from multiple resistive type water/fuel tank sensors and features inputs for four separate temperature sensors. There are also digital inputs, which can receive signals from devices such as door sensors or smoke alarms. The Cerbo GX can also trigger other devices, such as generators or alarms, using two relays that can be normally open or normally closed.

Expandability for portable applications
The USB ports on the device can be used to connect compatible GPS modules and GSM modems, further expanding functionality when used in vehicles, boats and ships.

Installation
The Cerbo GX is compact and easy to install, either wall-mounted or mounted on a standard DIN35 rail (using an adapter). The device comes bundled with pressure release connectors, VE.Can terminators and a power cable with an inline fuse.

Additional considerations
It is highly recommended to power the unit directly from the battery, as this will offer the most reliable power supply to the device while avoiding potential control conflicts. The Cerbo GX can operate within a wide range of input voltages (8-70 V DC) which means it is compatible with most batteries. Powering the Cerbo GX from the inverter can lead to edge-case scenarios where the Cerbo GX and the inverter both wait for the other device to power on first.
Another benefit of a direct battery connection is that system monitoring will continue to work, even if there’s an issue with another component in the system, such as inverter overload or failure.

Safety precautions
Please note that if the input voltage exceeds 60 V DC, the power terminals should be insulated, so the user cannot touch them.
As the device functions as a hub to which multiple other devices connect simultaneously, it is essential to be mindful of ground loops, as not all inputs are galvanically isolated.
