Application
The Lynx Smart BMS is a dedicated Battery Management System for Victron Lithium Battery Smart batteries.
Compatible Victron batteries are available with a nominal voltage of 12.8 V or 25.6 V in various capacities.
The batteries can be connected in series, parallel and a combination of series/parallel, allowing for for system voltages of 12 V, 24 V or 48 V.
Up to four 12.8 V batteries or two 25.6 V batteries can be connected in series.
A total of 20 batteries can be connected, resulting in energy storage of up to 84 kWh in a 12 V system or up to 102 kWh in a 24 V and 48 V system.
Features
The Lynx Smart BMS is the most advanced and feature-full BMS available for Victron batteries. Its functions include:
• Built-in 500 A contactor – the contactor is used both as a fall back safety mechanism, and as a remote controlled main system switch.
• Battery monitoring – The Lynx Smart BMS indicates state of charge (as a percentage) and other key system parameters.
• Pre-alarm signal – this feature provides a warning before the system shuts down due to low cell voltage.
• Integrated Bluetooth – it is possible to connect and configure the device wirelessly using a smartphone or computer and the VictronConnect App.
• Local and remote monitoring – the Lynx Smart BMS is compatible with Victron GX devices, such as, the Cerbo GX. When connected the system can be managed remotely over the Internet using the VRM portal.
What is the Lynx distribution system?
The Lynx distribution system is a family of devices for DC distribution with different functions that can be daisy-chained together, forming a continuous DC distribution busbar.
The Lynx Smart BMS can be connected to one or more Lynx Distributor modules and/or Lynx Power In modules.
All batteries, inverters, solar charge controllers, and other devices such as the Cerbo GX can be conveniently connected to this busbar.
Design and mounting
The Lynx Smart BMS contains a positive and a negative busbar, each made from tinned copper with a thickness of 8 mm and width of 30 mm. The enclosure is made from sturdy ABS plastic with an IP22 protection rating.
The Lynx Smart BMS should be wall mounted using the 5 mm mounting holes. The device can operate in a wide temperature range from -40 °C to +60 °C and up to 95% humidity, but it is not suited for external mounting.
All devices from the Lynx family are modular and designed to be interconnected or “daisy chained” via the busbar terminals on the left side using the provided M8 screw holes.
Please refer to the user manual, which you can download from this web page, for detailed mounting and installation instructions.
Yes, it is considered best practice to keep the length of the cables going from the batteries to the bus bar equal ...
